Frogwood Arboretum is designed by owner and Architect James Maund. Many years of research and consulatation with experts in Australia, USA and England, combined with the natural topography of the location, resulted in the unique design and layout of Frogwood. The first few years of operations have mainly dealt with the construction of pathways and other infrastructure, forming the framework for the trees and the way in which we can experience them as we walk through the Arboretum. See the "Mud Map" for the design plan.
Works have included constructing the main "Avenue" walk, the winding "Loop Track", additional side tracks to special features and views, an open water course for balancing the 4 dams, culverts, a comprehensive pipe works throughout the property to allow gravity fed access from the dams to water the trees in their first few years, 2 large "Frog Ponds", the central "Pivot", the "Diamond Lawn", several bench seats at various locations around the walk, large storage space for soil, mulch etc., large shed and drive for machinery and maintenance, and many other initial set-up projects.
Construction of "The Pivot" within the centre of the 75 tree Oak grove ( Quercus robur)
Boundary Fence
which consists of rabbit and hare proof mesh laid under the ground for 45cm, and up the fence 45cm, plus a tall ringlock to keep out Kangaroos and Wallabies. All gates are similarily constructed. So far so good!
